Finda a primeira volta, o denominador comum no Grupo I é o equilíbrio de forças, tendo em consideração que águias, alemães e dinamarqueses estão igualados no topo da classificação. Na passada Terça-feira, os pupilos de Carlos Lisboa neutralizaram muito bem o jogo contrário e estiveram em geral bastante consistentes e maduros. Fomos praticamente superiores em todos capítulos do jogo, especialmente no dos ressaltos (44 contra 33).
A equipa esteve realmente bastante bem, particularmente no 2º Período no qual marcou 33 pontos e no derradeiro parcial onde descolou definitivamente rumo à vitória. De salientar as exibições rubricadas por Anthony Ireland (18 pontos, 6 ressaltos e 11 assistências) e Betinho (21 pontos, 9 ressaltos e 4 assistências). Ambos foram peças essenciais na armada benfiquista, sobretudo nos últimos 10 min. Nota de relevo para a performance de Eric Coleman (13 pontos e 10 ressaltos) e para a estreia do novo reforço Anthony Hilliard.
Foi um jogo em que o Benfica não facilitou, no ataque e na defesa, e voltou a protagonizar uma primeira parte de nível superior (50-39 ao intervalo), à imagem daquela exibida em solo germânico. Só que desta vez não houve descalabro na segunda parte. A equipa aguentou-se muito bem do ponto de vista físico, tendo aliás sido evidente nos momentos capitais e na ponta final do duelo. Do lado contrário há qualidade, ninguém tenha dúvidas disso, porém eles tiveram uma noite marcadamente desinspirada, e não é descabido afirmar que nesse aspecto também houve consideravelmente mérito encarnado, mercê de uma actuação concentrada e aguerrida a nível defensivo e de um ataque paciente, inteligente e eficaz.
